World Meteorology Organization hails Saudi center for saving lives

  • The Kingdom’s celebration of World Meteorological Day was held under the slogan “Early Warning and Early Action” on Sunday in Jeddah.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) praised the efforts of the Saudi National Center of Meteorology.

WMO cited its key role in supporting economic and social development in the Kingdom, and protecting lives and property.

It noted that extreme weather, water and climate phenomena have become more frequent and more severe in many parts of the world due to climate change.

WMO also highlighted the Middle East Green Initiative launched by the Crown Prince.

The Kingdom’s celebration of World Meteorological Day was held under the slogan “Early Warning and Early Action” on Sunday in Jeddah.

WMO regional representative for the Arab Region Hisham Abdel Ghani stressed the importance of increased coordination between meteorological bodies, crisis and disaster management authorities and development agencies.

It has become necessary to improve prevention, readiness and response measures, he noted.

Abdel Ghani reiterated his praise for the efforts of the National Center of Meteorology, especially at the Arab and Gulf regional levels.

He cited its support for the establishment of many regional centers that serve the Arab and Gulf communities regarding climate change, climate services, dust and sand storms, among others.
