Amman, Jordan – Jordan’s Minister of State for Modernisation of the Public Sector Nasser Shraideh Tuesday said the “New City” project is expected to create 90,000 to 100,000 job opportunities during the construction period through 2033.

Shraideh added that the government hopes to start implementing the project in 2025, ending the first phase in 2033. The project would finish in 2050.

In a dialogue session held by the Jordanian Strategies Forum to talk about the project, Shraideh said that the city would be located in the Amman governorate. He, however, clarified that the new city would not replace Amman as the capital.

During the session, which saw the participation of Dar Al Handasah Company which conducted preliminary feasibility studies for the project, Shraideh said that the designs for the project have now become available.

The project, the minister said, is part of the state’s economic vision and aims to contribute to achieving sustainability, mainly to accommodate the population increase in Amman and Zarqa.
