Tunis, Tunisia–The President of Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) and CEO of Saudi Broadcasting Authority Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Harthi has called on media institutions in the Arab countries to develop and keep pace with changes by upgrading the local digital content industry to global standards.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Arab Media Conference in Tunisia, he said the traditional media institutions in the Arab countries are today unable to face the expansion and the digital deluge that have made a change in the map of media competition in all countries of the world.
He noted that the Arab States Broadcasting Union is working to form a media force that confronts the negative aspects of digital expansion in the Arab countries.
President Al-Harthi pointed out that digital dominance is a reality that cannot be ignored and that Arab media institutions must define their responsibilities to confront its negative aspects by setting their options and future to deal with the variables of the stage being led by the giant global institutions and companies in the digital field.
He demanded preparing a road map for the Arab media that does not give in to the current digital domination, indicating that the Union is working on preparing its final vision to face these challenges and submit its visions to the Conference of Arab Information Ministers scheduled to be held in the State of Kuwait in March to take action in this regard.
