Saeed bin Zayed passes away, three days of mourning announced

  • Born in 1965 in Al Ain, Sheikh Saeed was appointed as the Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi in June 2010.
  • He was appointed as the Undersecretary of the Department of Planning in Abu Dhabi. He was also a representative of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Abu Dhabi, UAE — Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, brother of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative, passed away on Thursday.

An obituary issued by the Presidential Court said: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful… With hearts faithful to God’s decree and destiny, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourns his late brother, H.H. Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, who passed away today.”

The Presidential Court declared official mourning with flags flown at half-mast for a period of three days till the end Saturday.

On July 22, the Presidential Court said that Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed was suffering from a health problem. Born in 1965 in Al Ain, Sheikh Saeed was appointed as the Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi in June 2010. He was appointed as the Undersecretary of the Department of Planning in Abu Dhabi. He was also a representative of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

A former member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council (ADCED), Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed had also held the position of Chairman of the Maritime Port Authority (Abu Dhabi).

Dubai Ruler and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and other UAE royals offered their condolences. Leaders from around the world also sent their condolences messages. Sheikh Saeed was laid to rest at Al Bateen Cemetery in Abu Dhabi in the afternoon.
