Paris, France – Saudi Arabia is being seen as a key contender as the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is set to make a decision during its 173rd General Assembly on November 28, 2023.

Saudi Arabia — vying to host the World Expo in Riyadh from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031 — has themed its bid ‘The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow.’ The Kingdom is competing against Busan, Korea, and Rome, Italy, for the honor of hosting the prestigious event.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman represented Saudi Arabia at the official reception for Riyadh’s candidacy in Paris on June 19, 2023, signaling the Kingdom’s serious commitment to winning the bid.

If successful, it would mark the first time Saudi Arabia hosts the world fair, following Dubai’s Expo 2020, the first in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia region.

Sea of opportunities

Experts predict that a Saudi victory could unlock unprecedented tourism, business, and innovation opportunities.

The Expo is also anticipated to surge tourism and hospitality sectors, attracting international visitors and business travelers. Ahmed pointed out that this influx would not only generate immediate revenue but also stimulate long-term growth in these industries.
