GENEVA — The UAE is working with the international community to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, said Jamal Jama Al Musharakh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.
The UAE strongly condemned Israel’s policy of collective punishment against the Palestinian people and its attempts at displacement, while stressing the importance of the international community adopting a unified standard to condemn violations of international humanitarian law.
This statement was made at a high-level Ministerial meeting held on the sidelines of the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Declaration on Human Rights.
During the meeting, titled ‘Human Rights Situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the International Humanitarian Law (IHL),’ Al Musharakh stated that the UAE is firmly committed to working with international parties to achieve an immediate ceasefire and to stop all military operations in Gaza for humanitarian reasons. This includes efforts to restore peace, prevent further loss of life, and ensure full protection for civilians.
Al Musharakh highlighted the UAE’s unwavering commitment to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, noting its efforts to provide humanitarian aid in cooperation with relevant international organizations.
This aid is particularly focused on those impacted by the conflict, including children, women, the elderly, and the sick. He pointed out that the UAE has sent planes loaded with food, medical supplies, relief materials, and other essentials.
Furthermore, the country has established a fully-equipped integrated field hospital in the Gaza Strip and has hosted wounded children and patients in UAE hospitals. Additionally, the UAE, in cooperation with the Arab Republic of Egypt, organized a visit for 12 UN Security Council Member States to the Rafah crossing.
This visit aimed to provide Council Members with insight into the suffering faced by Palestinians and to examine firsthand the level of destruction in Gaza, as well as the progress of aid, medical, and humanitarian operations.
In his closing statement at the event, attended by several foreign ministers and high-level officials, Al Musharakh reiterated the country’s permanent and historic commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in achieving all their legitimate rights.
He emphasized that the UAE will continue its efforts to achieve peace through tangible steps and a roadmap for a two-state solution. This solution envisions an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and negotiated between the two parties with full international backing.
