Oman-India JV marks launch of quartz stone project in Sohar

    • The plant began its commercial production last week after a trial run of its plant and machinery

    • MAVPL and its subsidiary Madhav Surfaces have jointly invested around $10 million to set up the high-tech plant

An Omani-Indian joint venture has led to the setting up of a quartz stone products manufacturing plant at Sohar, said local reports on Tuesday, June 8.

This is expected to contribute further to the global quartz market that stood at $8.23 billion in 2020, but is expected to grow to $13.61 billion by 2026.

The Omani connection to the new plant is business house Khimji Ramdas. On the India side, the stakeholder is marble and granite-surfaces manufacturer Madhav Ashok Ventures Private Limited.

The plant began its commercial production last week after a trial run of its plant and machinery, said the local reports.

MAVPL and its subsidiary Madhav Surfaces had jointly invested around $10 million in the establishment of the high-tech plant at the Sohar free zone, they added.

“With the start of this project, we will now be able to cater to demand for engineered stone in the US, European and Middle-East markets,” the reports quoted the Indian company as saying.

The announcement comes nearly 18 months after Sohar Port and Free zone signed a land lease agreement with the JV partners covering a 20,000 sq m site for the establishment of the quartz stone manufacturing plant within the free zone.

The facility has been designed for the manufacturing of quartz slabs and other quartz products using chrome ore and calcined lime from the local market, to be exported to the US and Europe, alongside the polishing of quartz slabs.
