ABU DHABI: Two cargo planes carrying 47 metric tons of medical supplies, including respirators and oxygen cylinders, arrived in Tunisia to help the north African nation contain a surge in Covid-19 cases.
The supplies were donated by the UAE. Rashid Mohammed Al Mansouri, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia, said medical supplies were in line with UAE’s continuing efforts to help Tunisia in its fight against the pandemic, local media reports said.
He said the UAE is closely monitoring the health situation in Tunisia.
Last July, the UAE supplied 500,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Tunisia, and in November 2020, it sent approximately 11 metric tons of medical supplies and equipment at a time when the worldwide number of cases was rapidly rising due to a lack of medical supplies around the world, the report said.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, UAE has provided over 2,200 metric tons of medical supplies to more than 135 countries.
