Riyadh, Saudi Arabia—The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen its global leadership in open data through a comprehensive national ecosystem led by the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA). Since its establishment, SDAIA has worked to develop the regulatory framework for data and build an advanced digital ecosystem that maximizes the value of data, supporting economic growth, development, and innovation in line with Vision 2030.
A key milestone in this journey was the launch of the Kingdom’s open data strategy, which established the regulatory and technical foundations for making government data accessible and enabling its effective use. By promoting transparency and improving the efficiency of data utilization, the strategy reinforces the recognition of data as a national asset that supports sustainable development and informed decision-making.
To further expand access to open data, SDAIA launched the national open data platform, a unified portal that enables government entities to publish datasets in open, machine-readable, and continuously updated formats. The platform facilitates the use and reuse of data in research, innovation, and business development, while providing individuals and organizations with reliable and diverse datasets.
The Kingdom’s open data ecosystem continues to grow rapidly, with more than 338 data providers and over 18,679 published datasets, reflecting the expanding commitment of government entities to data sharing and the increasing use of open data across economic and developmental sectors.
These achievements contributed to Saudi Arabia ranking first globally in the 2024 Open Government Data Index (OGDI), highlighting the Kingdom’s progress in government data availability and digital transparency. The open data journey reflects a broader transformation in national data governance, where data is increasingly recognized as a strategic resource for strengthening the economy, supporting innovation, and enabling evidence-based decision-making.
