Iran and the United States remained at odds over the Strait of Hormuz, as Trump claimed the US transported record oil volumes through the waterway.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was awaiting an official response through mediators after President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the strait. He said Iran would not abandon its conditions for reopening the strategic waterway.
Trump, speaking to reporters in Chicago, said the United States transported “a record amount of oil from the Hormuz Strait” the previous night, adding it was more than the amount transported before the war.
Trump said oil prices would fall “as soon as Iran gives up” and the war ends, which he said would happen soon.
Tehran has maintained that diplomacy remains the only viable resolution to its conflict with the United States and Israel, while Iranian military leaders have said their forces are prepared for renewed attacks.
Iran warns of response to renewed US attacks
Iran’s army chief, General Amir Hatami, said the war with the United States was not over and that Tehran needed to consolidate what he called its victory.
Hatami said the conflict had reached a “critical and decisive” stage and warned that Iran remained prepared to deliver further blows if attacked.
Iranian army spokesman Brigadier-General Mohammad Akraminia described the US position in the Middle East as “precarious” and said Washington could resort to military aggression again.
He said Iran’s army was fully prepared to confront any renewed attack.
IRGC says it captured US underwater vehicle
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it captured a US Remus 600 autonomous underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media said the IRGC described the vessel as an advanced submersible and said it was now being examined by its specialists to retrieve information.
The semi-official Fars news agency, citing an IRGC statement, said the vessel had been intercepted during an operation involving intelligence and electronic warfare.
The IRGC said the Strait of Hormuz remained closed and that it would take action against what it described as dangerous movements and unauthorised passage.
Iran threatens US ships beyond Gulf
IRGC Navy deputy for political affairs Ali Mohammadi warned that Iranian forces would attack US warships, including vessels in the Indian Ocean, if Washington launched another attack on Iran.
Mohammadi questioned US claims over the Strait of Hormuz and challenged Washington to bring one of its ships close to the waterway.
On Saturday, Trump posted an image on Truth Social showing the Strait of Hormuz circled and labelled “Trump Strait”, hours after Iran said it had presented a seven-day plan to reopen the waterway.
France says Saudi military support is defensive
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said French military assistance to Saudi Arabia to help counter attacks from Yemen’s Houthis was “strictly defensive”.
His comments followed President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that French troops, radar units and defence systems would be sent to Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has faced repeated missile and drone attacks from the Houthis after Yemen’s war reignited in July following a years-long truce.
