Lebanon fuel distributors say no diesel crisis in the country

Lebanon has seen a surge in fuel demand during winters.
  • The rumors of oil crisis started to circulate after a ship carrying 42 thousand tons of diesel met with a marine accident.
  • The representative confirmed that diesel will be available during the next week and there is no crisis but a shortage.

Lebanon’s Fuel Distributors Representative Fadi Abu Chakra has confirmed that “there is no diesel oil crisis” in the country.

The rumors of oil crisis started to circulate after a ship carrying 42 thousand tons of diesel met with a marine accident due to strong winds near the Amchit coast.

Abu Chakra said: “There is no crisis in fuel oil because of this incident.”

He added, “I made a call with the Head of Oil Importing Companies Group, Maroun Al-Shamas, who confirmed that the ship, which had a normal malfunction due to weather conditions, will be towed to Beirut.”

Chakra said the ship will be unloaded within 48 hours, and there is a second ship loaded with diesel coming to Lebanon.

Chakra reassured that diesel will be available during the next week and there is no crisis but a shortage because of the huge demand due to the cold weather.

He also expressed hope that all roads would be accessible in mountainous areas, following a snowstorm that has hit Lebanon recently.
