The Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) received 395,897 passengers in January, according to a report in the official Jordan News Agency.

The airport recorded a 161.3 percent growth in passenger traffic compared with the same period last year, latest data apparently showed.

Aircraft movements grew to 4,630 in January, 127.2 percent up from the same period last year, according to statistics announced Tuesday by the Airport International Group (AIG).

Air freight traffic also reached 4,048 tons in January, 13.6 percent up from the same period in 2021, the figures showed.

Passenger and aircraft movement and air cargo traffic at QAIA remained far lower than pre-pandemic levels despite the improvement from 2021 statistics, said AIG CEO Nicolas Claude.

He expressed hope that the sector will continue to build travelers’ confidence in safe air travel as Covid-19 restrictions had been relaxed worldwide.

He said AIG looks forward to seeing the impact of eased regulations on movements on an annual basis throughout 2022.
