Iraq’s Free-Trade Zone Authority has said that Iraq plans to establish free-trade zones adjacent to Baghdad and Najaf airports and another one near the Iraqi-Jordanian border, which is part of a joint economic city and one of the most important future projects.
Quoting the Director of the Free-Trade Zone Authority, Munther Abdul Amir Asad, Iraqi media reports said the country was also working to open free-trade zones near the Iraq-Saudi Arabia border.
Asad said all the factors necessary for the success of these free industrial, commercial or multi-activity zones exist in the country.
“It is important to establish free-trade zones near the hubs of external roads, and this supports the process of trade exchange and foreign trade development,” Asad said.
In May, Asad had said the Baghdad Airport zone project would be offered to investors and would be dedicated to “air cargo, aviation and ground support services, and aircraft maintenance.”
Also, the authority had said a free zone in southern port of Basra will be built in Shalamija area, just near the border with Iran.
