Germany pledges 413.9m euros in development aid to Jordan

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh said that the amount comprises grants, technical aid and soft loans.

Amman, Jordan  – Germany has pledged new development assistance to Jordan worth 413.9 million euros for 2022-2023.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh said that the amount, comprising grants, technical aid and soft loans, will be disbursed to fund priority development projects.

The pledged assistance comprises 179 million euros as grants to support development projects, 89.4 million euros as grants for technical cooperation in development ventures, 50 million euros as development loan for water sector, in addition to 95.5 million euros as humanitarian aid to support the kingdom in hosting the Syrian refugees.

The aid also comprises 15 million euros as an additional grant for the National Water Carrier Project. 

The Jordanian-German discussions covered a wide range of vital sectors in the kingdom including education, water, sanitation, renewable energy, vocational training, and technical education.

A €26 million grant agreement was signed on the sidelines between the German Development Bank (KfW) and Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), under which the latter will implement the second phase of a program carried out by the university.
