Qatar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations to distribute cash aid to needy families in Gaza, according to a statement from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the statement, Qatar’s Gaza Reconstruction Committee’s Chairman, Ambassador Mohammed Al Emadi, signed the MoU with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland to facilitate this aid.

Al Emadi said that the MoU includes the mechanism through which the cash aid grant provided by Qatar would be distributed to needy families in the Gaza Strip.

He explained that the cash assistance to beneficiaries would be disbursed through the United Nations and its World Food Program.

As a result, each of about 100,000 needy families in the governorates of the Gaza Strip would receive $100 per month in cash.

The total aid thus comes to around $10 million each month from Qatar to these families.

Al Emadi indicated that the Qatari committee would transfer the aid funds before the end of August.

He added that the distribution of these funds would start in the month of September.

It may be noted that Egypt has already pledged $500 million as part of a project to rebuild Gaza after Israeli hostilities in May this year.
