Germany will extend 100-million-euro loan to support Tunisian reforms in the banking and financial sector, German Ambassador to Tunisia Peter Prüge said during a meeting held Friday with Finance Minister Sihem Namassia.
This disbursement is part of a loan agreement signed in 2020 between Tunisia and the German Development Bank (KFW) to improve access to financing for very small, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The ambassador said that Germany wishes to express, through this disbursement, its support to Tunisia, especially during this difficult economic situation, according to a statement published by the embassy on its social media page.
He added that the decision to give this loan was taken because his country is “confident” about the roadmap prepared by Tunisian President Kais Saied, which “will initiate the return of the democratic regime and its achievements” in Tunisia.
In this context, he stressed his country’s readiness to continue supporting democracy in Tunisia and to follow closely, with its European partners, the evolution of the situation in the country.
The ambassador stressed the importance of respecting the human rights and fundamental freedoms of Tunisians and guaranteeing the separation of powers and the sovereignty of the law.
