Iraq invites Turkey, Iran to discuss water share issue

  • Iraq's Minister of Water Resources said that an invitation was extended to the Iranian Minister of Energy to attend the third Baghdad Water Conference.
  • Iraq invited the Turkish delegation for the purpose of continuing discussions on activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries.

BAGHDAD, IRAQ –  Iraq’s Minister of Water Resources Aoun Diab said on Sunday that the releases of the Tigris River will improve in the coming days.

He also said that an invitation was extended to the Iranian Minister of Energy to attend the third Baghdad Water Conference.

Diab said that “meetings and work are continuing with the Iranian and Turkish sides regarding Iraq’s water share.”

He said that “an invitation was extended to the Iranian Minister of Energy to attend and participate in the third Baghdad Water Conference, which will be held next month.”

He added, “Discussions and understandings with the Turkish side during the prime minister’s recent visit included an agreement to send a technical delegation to Istanbul soon.”

Iraq invited the Turkish delegation to visit it for the purpose of continuing discussions on activating the memorandum of understanding that was previously signed between the two countries.

This agreement was also ratified by the Turkish and Iraqi parliaments.

Diab said, “There are practical steps to implement what was stated in the terms of the memorandum.”
