Jordan’s minister holds series of meetings with UN officials

Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh held a series of meetings at the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) meet in New York.

Shraideh met with several senior UN officials and presented Jordan’s 2nd Voluntary National Review, said a ministry statement on Thursday.

The minister briefed the UN officials on social and economic challenges facing the Kingdom due to Covid-19 pandemic, the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the Syrian refugees crisis and the importance of supporting Amman to enable it to deal with these repercussions in order to move towards economic recovery.

He also reviewed Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision 2033 and government efforts in increasing women’s participation in economic and political life.

Shraideh also met with his Iraqi and Bahraini counterparts, Khaled Najem and Noor al-Khulaif respectively.

Shraideh is taking part along with ministers, ambassadors and representatives of the member states of the United Nations in the 2022 UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development held in the UN headquarters in New York.

Shraideh met with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammad, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Rola Dashti, Executive Board of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Natalia Kanem and Executive Director of the United Nations Women, Sima Bahouth.

A number of MPs are also taking part at the high-level meeting including Abdel Rahim May’ayeh, Fayez Basbous, Zeid O’toum, Bassam al-Fayez and Ali Ghzawi.
