Jordan’s trade exchanges with ASEAN up by 42% last year

Amman, Jordan – Jordan’s trade exchanges with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) surged by 42% in 2022 compared to the previous year, according to statistical data released by the Amman Chamber of Commerce.

 The kingdom’s trade exchanges with ASEAN reached $1.8 billion in 2022, up from $1.3 billion in 2021.

Jordan imported goods worth $1.2 billion from ASEAN countries last year, including pearls, gemstones, textile materials, electrical and electronic sets, transport equipment, food industry, and chemical products. 

Meanwhile, Jordan’s national exports to ASEAN countries amounted to $279 million and re-exports were valued at $17,000.

ACC Head Khalil Haj Tawfiq highlighted the opportunity for Jordan to further strengthen its economic ties with ASEAN countries. 

The ACC is planning to organize a Jordanian-Asian economic forum before the end of 2023, which will include joint fairs and meetings for business owners, industrialists, and traders from ASEAN countries and their Jordanian counterparts. 

Haj Tawfiq also intends to invite members of Arab trade and industry chambers, particularly Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to participate in the forum’s activities.
