Kuwait has called on Iran anew to adopt “serious measures” towards building confidence in the region, local reports have said.
The measures are expected to be based on the respect of sovereignty and non-interference in affairs of countries, Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah told the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
He said Iran should also work towards reducing tension in the Gulf region, and preserving safety, freedom, and security of maritime navigation.
Sheikh Sabah said this would ultimately contribute to building relations based on mutual cooperation and respect.
These measures, he explained, would honor aspirations of regional countries to enjoy security and stability, which would achieve prosperity and development of people.
Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah said, was looking forward to see regional and international efforts to bring about success to an international conference on clearing the Middle East from nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, due in the UN in New York in November.
Iran has already played the role of a mediator of sorts when late last month it hosted several regional countries in an international conference the likes of which had not been seen in years, if not decades.
