Lebanon will soon send a high-level delegation to seek help from Syria, Jordan and Egypt to abate its crisis, local reports have said.
The delegation will discuss the possibility of receiving electricity from Jordan and gas from Egypt through Syrian territories, said the reports.
The delegation will reportedly include caretaker Defense Minister and acting Foreign Minister Zeina Akar, caretaker Energy and Water Minister Raymond Ghajar, and caretaker Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni.
Some top officials from the Energy Ministry are also expected to be included in the delegation.
The date of the visit has reportedly not been set yet, but it is expected to happen very soon.
US Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy C Shea called Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun last week to inform him that Lebanon could receive electricity supply from Jordan and gas from Egypt through Syrian territories.
She told Aoun both projects would be financed by the World Bank.
Lebanon has been suffering from an acute shortage of fuel and gasoline over the past four months after central bank Governor Riad Salameh repeatedly said that it could no longer afford to subsidize the purchasing of fuel and medicines.
Salameh recently canceled the subsidy, which on one hand caused fuel prices to skyrocket, while on the other hand led to political turmoil.
