The UAE has announced that it has sent 300,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Comoros, said local reports on Wednesday.

The country has also sent 9 metric tons of medical supplies to the African nation, said the local reports.

The aircraft was received at the airport of the Comorian capital, Moroni, by the country’s President Azali Assoumani, and UAE Ambassador to the Comoros, Saeed Al Maqbali.

Assoumani thanked the UAE for its support to his country, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The disease has killed 147 people, most of them during the surge in infections that the country saw in January this year.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said last week that Comoros was among the African countries that destroyed a total of 450,000 vaccines since the beginning since they were made available because they had reached their date of expiry.

The other countries are Malawi, South Sudan, Liberia, Mauritania, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and DR Congo, said WHO.
