Exhibition of artist Hrair Sarkissian’s works opens

An exhibition of the works of artist Hrair Sarkissian was inaugurated at the Sharjah Art Foundation by Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah.
Sarkissian, who was born in Damascus in 1973 and who now lives in the Hague and in London, is of Armenian descent. This is his first investigative exhibition and examines the history of demise, the architecture of violence and possibilities of the photographic medium, based on two major commissions.
Sharjah Art Foundation has organized the exhibition in collaboration with Galerie Bonnier Constellation in Stockholm and Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, Netherlands.
The two commissions are photographic installations titled ‘Last Seen’ and ‘Sweet and Sour’. The former is commissioned by Sharjah Art Foundation and the latter by Bonnefantin.
Sarkissian described his works of the past 15 years, which take the visitor on a photographic journey to the squares of Aleppo, Latakia and Damascus, and through the skies over Palmyra and the snow-covered landscapes of contemporary Armenia.
