Kuwait and UNHCR agreement to provide $2 million aid to Yemen

Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a grant agreement valued at KD 605,000 ($2 million) in Kuwait on Sunday.

 

The agreement is a result of Kuwait’s commitment during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly to provide $20 million to alleviate the humanitarian situation in Yemen, local media reports said.

 

The grant targets at improving living conditions of almost 200,000 internally displaced persons, to improve access to basic services in cities like Sana’a, Aden, Al Hudaydah and Marib, and for host communities project in Yemen.

 

It is also meant to provide basic building materials for temporary shelters, to rehabilitate and improve sites’ and water sources infrastructure, establishment of water channels and sewage system, the reports said.

 

The funds will be also used for waste management, road repairs, and supply and installation of solar-powered street lighting in about 25 sites.

 

This is the fifth donation offered by the Kuwaiti fund to the UNHCR.
