‘Arabic’ coffee renamed ‘Saudi’ coffee in the kingdom

Saudi Arabia is among the top 10 countries in the world in coffee consumption.
  • The decision is part of the initiatives being taken under the "Year of Saudi Coffee" program.
  • The Ministry of Culture has already named 2022 as the “Year of Saudi Coffee” under the support of the Quality of Life Program.

Saudi Arabia has announced that “Arabic” coffee will be called “Saudi” coffee in all restaurants and coffee shops in the kingdom.

The joint initiative by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Commerce is aimed at serving national targets of the “Year of Saudi Coffee” and celebrating Saudi coffee for its being a cultural element that expresses the Saudi identity and reflects Saudis’ relations with their unique coffee and the tradition of its preparation and serving, media reports said.

The Ministry of Culture has already named 2022 as the “Year of Saudi Coffee” under the support of the Quality of Life Program, one of the programs of the Saudi Vision 2030, in a national initiative that seeks to celebrate Saudi coffee through programs, events and competitions.

These programs and events will be organized by the Culture Ministry and the Culinary Arts Commission throughout the year in partnership with public, semi-public and private sector institutions, restaurants and hotels, coffee shops and roasters and individuals concerned with the Saudi coffee in terms of planting, preparing and serving coffee.
