Regional and global condemnation is pouring in after a drone strike claimed by the Houthi rebels of Yemen hit a refinery in Saudi Arabia.
The pre-dawn attack on Friday caused a fire but did not disrupt supplies, officials were quoted by local reports as saying.
Countries condemn attack
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), the UAE said the attack is a cowardly terrorist act, and a war crime that required a response against threats to the security and safety of civilians and vital facilities.
The statement called on the international community to support all necessary measures by Saudi Arabia to stop the targeting of civilians, residents, facilities, and economic interests.
Through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt stressed its absolute condemnation of these terrorist acts of sabotage, which it said had targeted vital facilities and the security and safety of energy supplies Saudi Arabia
The African country also reiterated its full support for the kingdom in the measures it was taking to protect its security and sovereignty against these cowardly terrorist acts.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry stressed the country’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, claiming it backing all the measures taken to preserve its security, stability, and territorial integrity.
It reiterated Bahrain’s firm rejection of terrorist acts in all its forms.
Jordanian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesman, Ambassador Haitham Abu Al-Ful, reiterated his country’s denunciation of the Houthi attacks against civilian facilities.
Organizations chime in
Meanwhile, the Arab Parliament said in a statement that this attack does not target the Kingdom alone.
Instead, it said, such acts were an escalation aimed more broadly at destabilizing the security and stability of energy supplies in the world, and negatively affecting the global economy.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also condemned the attack.
OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha also stressed the organization’s support and solidarity with Saudi Arabia for the measures it was taking to protect itself.
The Council of Arab Interior Ministers, in a statement issued from its headquarters in Tunis, said the attack was another evidence of the Houthi terrorist militia’s endeavor to undermine security and stability in the region.
