Bahrain’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and National Security is deliberating on a parliamentary proposal to control food-delivery motorcycles, said local reports on Wednesday, July 21.
The proposal calls for tightening of control — in terms of traffic and health — on motorcycles designated for delivering restaurant orders, said the reports.
The proposal was reportedly submitted by the Services Committee Chairman Ahmed Al Ansari, and signed by Ali Zayed, Issa Al Dosari, Abdul Razzaq Hattab and Ibrahim Al Nafiei.
It reportedly comes in response to reports of abuses committed by riders of food-delivery motorcycles.
The local reports said the proposal aims to tighten control over them by putting an end to traffic violations committed by them.
The most prominent of the violations is the use by drivers of sidewalks and pedestrian paths as shortcuts, an act that endangers the lives of pedestrians, road users, and cyclists, said the report.
The proposal will also apparently look to set health requirements on food-carrying boxes installed at the back of the vehicles.
