  • He said the desired goal of $10bn bilateral trade between the two countries could be achieved in a short time.

Algiers, Algeria— Turkish investments in Algeria have exceeded $5 billion and the desired goal of $10-billion trade between the two countries would be achieved in a short time, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said.

Cavusoglu made this announcement at a joint press conference he addressed along with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra, following the first meeting of the Turkish-Algerian Joint Planning Group in the Algerian capital, QNA reported.

Davutoglu revealed that the value of bilateral trade between Turkey and Algeria increased by 30 percent this year, compared to last year. He added that the number of Turkish companies operating in Algeria exceeded 1,400.

For his part, the Algerian Foreign Minister praised the first session of the Joint Turkish-Algerian Planning Group, describing it as “distinguished”, as it laid “a correct brick in the edifice of this sustainable and integrated strategic partnership”.

Lamamra said that the numbers of economic exchanges between the two countries indicate that the partnership between the two countries has a promising future, and that “the pace that we have reached, and which is required to be accelerated, is one of the signs that must be employed to reach the strategic goals between our two countries, whether it is related to trade, investment, transportation, technology or cooperation in various fields.”

The Turkish Foreign Minister and his Algerian counterpart chaired the meeting held in Algiers to follow up the results of the Turkish-Algerian high level cooperation council, the report said.
