UAE signs air transport services agreement with Austria to boost trade

  • UAE's ambassador to Austria said that the signing of the agreement will enhance relations, creating new opportunities for trade between the two countries
  • The Austrian official said the agreement will benefit transport companies in both countries and support the tourism sector, apart from boosting trade

Vienna, Austria— Looking to ramp up trade and business relations, the United Arab Emirates has signed an air transport services agreement with Austria at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital, Vienna.

The agreement, which aims to strengthen air transport relations between the two countries, was signed on behalf of the UAE by Hamad Al Kaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, and on the Austrian side by Peter Launsky Tieffenthal, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, said, “The signing of this agreement will enhance the distinguished relations between our two countries, create new opportunities for trade, support the operations of national carriers, enhance private sector partnership, and encourage economic competition.”

In turn, Al Kaabi said, “This agreement paves the way for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and increasing trade exchange, especially in light of the expected rise in reciprocal flights and the bolstered air transport services network, which will benefit transport companies in both countries and support the tourism sector.”

Last year, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria Karl Nehammer met in Abu Dhabi to explore opportunities to further enhance bilateral ties in light of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that exists between the two countries.

The two sides affirmed their interest in strengthening bilateral relations, especially in technology, energy, innovation and food security, among others.
Sheikh Mohamed and Nehammer exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two leaders underscored the importance of taking action to ease tension and promote dialogue to resolve crises with humanitarian, economic and food security implications.
