Amman, Jordan – European Union has pledged €364 million to Jordanian government’s efforts in economic, political and administrative development and reform fields through development programmes and projects.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh and EU Ambassador to Jordan Maria Hadjitheodosiou Monday signed in Amman a joint declaration with the EU through which the EU pledged to provide aid to Jordan for the period 2021-2024.
Shraideh said that Jordan has “strong, historical and strategic” ties with the EU, which have improved due to the efforts of King Abdullah II, who has been keen to hold continued meetings with EU officials, including representatives of the European Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament.
He explained that the aid packages are part of the EU’s support for the Jordanian government’s efforts in economic, political and administrative development and reform fields through development programmes and projects.
The aid packages include supporting human development, civil society, governance, institutional development and green transition. The priorities are in line with national plans.
Shraideh signed a grant agreement from the EU to Jordan worth €40 million for support to the green economy in Jordan.
He added that it aims to support areas related to sustainable and efficient production and consumption patterns in the industrial sector and sustainable management of resources in energy, water, agriculture and electronic transport.
Hadjitheodosiou welcomed the signing of the joint declaration, adding that the programme sets the priorities for cooperation between the EU and Jordan.
