The Ministry of Migration and Displacement (MOMD) has warned the Iraqis to avoid falling victim to fraud by companies that deceived them under the title of immigration and asylum.

The Undersecretary of MOMD, Karim Al-Nouri, said: “The repercussions of the recent illegal immigration to Belarus and push Iraqis asylum seekers towards the border between Lithuania and Poland.”

“This contributed to the decline in Iraqis’ turnout for immigration”, he noted.

“It also led to the threat of imposing sanctions on Iraq due to problems between The European Union (EU) and Belarus, due to Belarus’s attempt to stop this large number of Iraqis to put pressure on the EU”, he remarked.

Al-Nouri added that “Iraq has taken serious measures, including stopping the flights to Belarus, moving flights from Belarus to Iraq for returnees.”

This also includes “calling on the EU not to force the migration of Iraqis there, as we hope that the Iraqis will not be victims of companies that deceived them”, the official said.

He noted that “we do not have an accurate number of Iraqis stranded on the border strip at the present time, and they have despaired of granting them asylum.”
