Kuwait, France discuss bilateral ties, cooperation on regional, global issues

Paris, France – Kuwait and France discuss bilateral relationship and cooperation on regional and global issues of shared interests on Tuesday. 

The discussions took place during the meetings between the visiting Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna and French President’s advisor Patrick Dorrell. 

During his meeting with Minister Colonna, Sheikh Salem emphasized the close ties between the two nations, as well as the high level of cooperation they have achieved across various fields.

The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the historical links between Kuwait and France, strategies for strengthening their ties. One significant item on the agenda was the issue of granting Kuwaiti nationals exemption from Schengen visa requirements. Both ministers discussed joint efforts to rally European support for this matter.

Minister Colonna expressed France’s support for the visa exemption initiative and also commended Kuwait’s balanced foreign policy, its efforts to establish regional security and peace, and its consistent stance in international forums. 

The ministers engaged in deliberations on regional and international developments, exchanging perspectives on key issues such as the crises in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Ukraine.

The two countries signed agreements to establish a strategic dialogue between Kuwait and France, as well as cooperation in development between the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the French Development Agency.
