Saudi Arabia wants political solution to Russia-Ukraine conflict

  • Russian troops entered Ukraine on February 24 to conduct what President Vladimir Putin said was a ‘special operation’
  • Since then, Russia has pummeled targets across Ukraine, while suffering losses of its own, like the sinking of its flagship Moskva

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, April 16, called Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the two leaders spoke about prevailing situations, according to a report in the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

During the call, Prince Mohammed, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia, is said to have urged for a political solution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them in all fields in a way that achieves the interests of both parties were discussed, according to the SPA report.

Prince Mohammed then asserted the support of Saudi Arabia for efforts that would lead to a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine, the SPA report said.

Such a solution, he said, should help achieve security and stability.
