  • Currently 100,000 production units have been registered in the garment industry
  • These statistics do not include the stores operating on the virtual space and also unauthorized people

Tehran, Iran – The clothing industry in Iran which employs around two million people grew by 17 percent last year compared to the previous year, a senior Iranian official said on Monday.

“Currently, at least 100,000 production units have been registered in the garment industry,” the Director General of the Office of Textiles and Clothing Industries at the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade said..”At least 280,000 distribution groups are also operating in the field of clothing, and these statistics do not include the stores operating on the virtual space and also unauthorized people.”

The official said nearly 100,000 production units have been officially registered, contributing significantly to the country’s garment production. Additionally, an estimated 280,000 distribution groups are actively engaged in the field of clothing.

The reported figures exclude those operating in the virtual space and unauthorized personnel, suggesting that the actual number of people involved in the industry may be even higher, the official added.

Similarly, there are currently 1,000 operational facilities focused on clothing in Iran. These units have collectively provided employment opportunities for 700,000 to 1 million people, illustrating the sector’s substantial impact on the labor market, the official further said.
