Jordan and Egypt agree to expand bilateral relations

Cairo, Egypt—King Abdullah of Jordan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi have expressed desire to further expand bilateral relations between the two countries in a meeting in Cairo.

During the meeting, held at Al Ittihadiya Palace, both leaders expressed pride in the ties between the two countries and peoples, and keenness to bolster relations across various fields.

The two leaders reaffirmed the need to continue expanding bilateral cooperation, and trilateral cooperation with Iraq, as well as to continue making progress on joint agreements in service of mutual interests and Arab causes.

Discussions also covered the latest regional and international developments, with both sides stressing the need to maintain coordination and consultation on issues of mutual concern.

Turning to the Palestinian cause, King Abdullah and President El Sisi underscored the need to provide full support to the Palestinians as they seek their just and legitimate rights, stressing the importance of stepping up efforts to reach just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty, Jafar Hassan, General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Egypt Amjad Adaileh attended the meeting on the Jordanian side.

On the Egyptian side, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Director of the General Intelligence Service Maj. Gen. Abbas Kamel, Chief of the Presidential Cabinet Maj. Gen. Ahmad Mohammad Ali, Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Bassam Rady, and Egypt Ambassador to Jordan Mohammed Samir attended the meeting.
