Tehran, Iran— Iraq’s President Abdul Latif Rashid will make an official visit to Iran in the near future as the two countries seek to consolidate their relations amid the warming of ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The visit of the Iraqi president to Iran was confirmed in a phone conversation between the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.
During the phone talk, the Iranian foreign minister felicitated the minister and the Iraqi nation on the occasion of Eid. The two exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including the upcoming visit of the president of Iraq to Iran, and some regional and international developments.
Hussain and Amirabdollahian in their phone talk also reviewed ways for comprehensive expansion of strategic cooperation and stressed the need for continuous consultations on various issues of mutual interest.
In February, the Iraqi president had indicated his willingness to visit Iran, which he received during his meeting with Abdollahian.
The invitation was sent to Rashid from the Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Rashid stressed that Iraq and Iran are two neighboring countries, both have historical relations and common bonds, and they can contribute to strengthening the security and stability in the region, and encouraging reliance on dialogue to solve regional and international issues.
Rashid emphasized that regional security requires the cooperation of all countries in the region, INA mentioned.
Rashid highlighted the importance of coordination and consultation on issues of common interest, in a way that serves the interests of the people of Iraq, Iran and other countries in the region.
