Muslims mark Eid al-Adha with prayers, festivities

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia–Eid al-Adha is being celebrated on Wednesday, June 28, in various countries of the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas with great enthusiasm and sacrifice.

In Saudi Arabia, worshipers gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madina, as well as in various locations throughout the country, to mark this important occasion.

In Makkah, the sermon was led by the imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Yasser bin Rashid Al-Dosari. He advised Muslims to have taqwa (fear of God), as “it is the strongest, most important, and fairest form of righteousness.”

In the UAE, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan performed the Eid Al Adha prayer alongside worshipers at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Performing prayers by Sheikh Mohamed’s side were Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and many others, including high-ranking officials.

During the Eid sermon, Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Director-General of the UAE Fatwa Council, highlighted the importance of family bonds in bringing joy into our lives, and caring for one’s parents who serve as our top role models.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani performed Eid Al Adha prayer along with a group of loyal citizens at Lusail praying area this morning.

Also performing the prayer were Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanem, and a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs, ministers, members of the Shura Council, and a number of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions in the country.

Sheikh Dr. Thaqeel bin Sayer Al Shammari, who is a judge of the Court of Cassation and Supreme Judiciary Council member, led the prayer and delivered the Eid sermon.

In other parts of the world, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Turkey, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated tomorrow, June 29, 2023.

The date varies based on the sighting of the new moon, a significant factor in determining the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.

Eid al-Adha is a time for reflection, gratitude, and community. Muslims gather with their loved ones to partake in festive meals, exchange gifts, and engage in acts of charity. The spirit of unity and togetherness is evident as people come together to celebrate this joyous occasion.
