Bahrain suspends economic relations with Israel

According to the preliminary estimates, the non-oil sectors posted sound growth.
  • Bahrain took the decision to recall the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Israel back to the country, the Council of Representatives said.
  • It also demanded taking measures to preserve lives of people in the Gaza Strip and other regions of Palestine.

DUBAI, UAE – Bahrain has recalled its Ambassador from Israel and decided to suspend economic relations with Tel Aviv in a show of support for the Palestinian people.

Bahrain’s move comes amid Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, the Council of Representatives which is the lower house of parliament of the Kingdom, said.

“The Council of Representatives acknowledges that the Ambassador of Israel to Bahrain has left the Kingdom,” the Council said in the statement posted on its website.

“Bahrain made the decision to recall the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Israel back to the country. Economic relations with Israel are also suspended,” it said.

This decision “is the confirmation of the historical and firm position of Bahrain to support the Palestinian issue and lawful rights of the people,” the legislative body noted, Russian news agency TASS reported.

The Council of Representatives of Bahrain has demanded taking measures to preserve lives of innocent people in the Gaza Strip and other Palestine regions in view of “continued war and military operations and continuing Israeli aggression in light of the non-observance of international humanitarian law,” it added.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when the Palestinian group Hamas staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, killing residents of Israeli border settlements and taking over 200 hostages, including children, women and the elderly.

Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Israel has announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and has been delivering air strikes on Gaza as well as some parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also underway in the West Bank.
