Istanbul, Turkey— The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is keen to enhance economic cooperation with Turkey, according to its Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.
The secretary general stressed that the GCC Ministerial Council, which held its 155th session in March this year, resumed the strategic dialogue with Türkiye, and adopted the Joint Action Plan 2023-2027, SPA reported.
Albudaiwi made the statements while participating in the GCC-Turkish Economic Forum, held in Istanbul, Turkiye, from November 11 to 13. The forum has drawn top officials and business owners from both sides.
Albudaiwi, in a statement, stressed that “the forum is of great importance as it creates an opportunity to adopt and promote a common understanding to deal with the challenges of the economy and global stability”, boosts opportunities and helps confront current challenges through cooperation, innovation, and a focus on overcoming difficulties for different sectors and industries.
He also pointed out that the forum works toward achieving sustainable economic growth. In that respect, the trade exchange between the GCC countries and Turkiye amounted to $22 billion in 2021, he said.
Albudaiwi also said that the forum focuses on benefiting from major investment opportunities and potentials, “as this event targets a number of fields related to trade and investment, industry and logistics services, infrastructure, agriculture and food, and sports, through the participation of a number of senior officials, decision makers and businessmen from the GCC countries and the Republic of Turkiye”, according to the release.
