French-origin pharmaceutical company Ipsen has inaugurated its new regional headquarters in Dubai in the UAE, it said in a statement.
This is its first office in the Middle East and Africa or MEA region, it said in the statement.
The move is expected to kickstart its direct operations and serve unmet medical needs covering oncology, rare diseases, and neuroscience in the region, it said.
Ipsen’s regional office and headquarters will help in faster access to innovative treatments for patients with unmet medical needs.
Publicly traded on the Euronext Paris bourse, Ipsen specializes in all these three arms of medicine.
Ipsen said in its statement that it focuses especially on neuroendocrine tumors, the second-most prevalent gastrointestinal neoplasm after colorectal cancer.
It also gives special attention to developing treatments for prostate cancer, breast cancer, spasticity, and renal and hepatocellular cell carcinoma, it said.
In 2020, the Ipsen Group reported net sales which exceeded €2.5 billion ($2.95 billion), which was a 3% year-on-year growth in sales.
The Ipsen statement quoted France’s Consul General to Dubai and Northern Emirates, Raja Rabia, as saying: “Over the years, French companies have contributed to the [UAE’s] economy and gained from the opportunities offered by the country both at a national level and to expand to regional markets.”
She added she now looks forward “to the positive impact this creates on the lives of patients.”
Ipsen’s MEA Specialty Care Operations Head Khaled Elrefae was quoted by the statement as saying: “We strive to contribute to the health and well-being of the people of the UAE, and the region, especially at a time when healthcare is top priority.”
