BCCI announces remaining IPL match schedule across UAE

    • The 14th season of IPL, which was postponed in May due to the Covid-19 pandemic in India, will resume on September 19 in Dubai

    • In all, 13 matches will be held in Dubai, 10 in Sharjah and eight in Abu Dhabi

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the schedule for the matches of the rest of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The board issued a statement on Sunday, July 25, in which it explained how the 31 remaining matches of this year’s truncated edition of the cash-rich tournament — it has an estimated brand value of $6.7 billion — would be spread across three venues: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

It said the 14th season of IPL, which was postponed in May this year in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic in India, would resume on September 19 in Dubai.

The introductory match, BCCI said, would be in Dubai between the two teams that have won the most IPL titles: five-time champions Mumbai Indians and three-time toppers Chennai Super Kings.

The action will then shift to Abu Dhabi where the Kolkata Knight Riders will square off against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sharjah will host its first game on September 24 when Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Chennai Super Kings.

The BCCI said: “In all, 13 matches will be held in Dubai, 10 in Sharjah and eight in Abu Dhabi.” The last match — the Finale — will be held on October 15

After the league stages, Dubai will host Qualifier 1 and the Final, while Sharjah will host the Eliminator and Qualifier 2.

The previous edition of IPL had also been held in the UAE, and after the current edition, the country will co-host the Men’s T20 World Cup along with Oman from October 17 to November 14.
