  • The participation of an EU representative in the Iranian president’s inauguration ceremony showed EU determination

The European Union is ready for cooperation with Iran, local reports on Friday, August 27, quoted EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell as telling Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

The reports said Borrell urged Iran to set date for the next meeting on nuclear talks in Vienna.

He is said to have pointed to the EU’s role as coordinator of the JCPOA and Vienna talks while making this suggestion.

The participation of an EU representative in the Iranian president’s inauguration ceremony showed EU determination, he added.

He described developments in Afghanistan as a new challenge for the region, and emphasized the need for serious cooperation with regard to Afghan refugees.

Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, underlined Tehran’s commitment to maintain constructive negotiations and interactions in the framework of balanced diplomacy, said the local reports.

He termed negotiations as a tool for diplomacy.

A negotiation that has tangible and practical results and will preserve the rights and interests of the people is acceptable for Iran, he reiterated.
