London-headquartered architecture firm Chapman Taylor has unveiled the design for the Central Park project at the proposed Airport City in Jeddah.
The 9.3-hectare project would be a mixed-use space at the heart of the new urban district, said the company in a statement.
The Airport City itself is expected to see the commencement of construction before the end of this year.
It is coming up adjacent to King Abdulaziz International Airport, and is being projected as an upcoming destination for visitors from across Saudi Arabia and the GCC region.
The company is designing this transport-orientated urban development for SARH Airport Development and Real Estate Investment, jointly with AE Prime as a lead consultant and project manager.
Chapman Taylor said the Airport City’s GBA masterplan — spread over 1.91 million sq m — introduces a new mixed-use community concept to the region, creating tourism and business opportunities while also providing a lifestyle and family entertainment venue.
The Central Park is designed as a large botanical garden that combines landscaping with culture, leisure activities for all ages, retail, and dining, it stated.
The 18,000 sq m of gross leasable area within the park is expected to also include a discovery pavilion, a sensorial pavilion, a science pavilion, and children’s pavilions, as well as an arts park, a children’s park and a floating food village.
According to Chapman Taylor, the park sits at the heart of the Airport City masterplan, close to the business district and its hotels, serviced apartments and exhibition and conference centers.
The wider Airport City scheme is expected to deliver a sustainable mix of provisions around a central avenue, which links the airport’s railway station to the airport’s dedicated mosque.
