Microsoft announces pricing for new Office suite

Microsoft has announced the pricing for the upcoming versions of Office 365 and standalone installations.
  • Microsoft 365 and Office 2021 will run on Windows 11, Windows 10, and the three latest macOS versions
  • A Microsoft account and an internet connection are mandatory for subscribers to access and use Microsoft 365 or Office 2021

Microsoft on Friday, October 1, announced the pricing for the upcoming versions of Office 365 and standalone installations of the productivity suite.

According to a blog post by Microsoft’s Corporate Vice-President for Modern Life, Search, and Devices, Liat Ben-Zur, the subscription suites would be available for both monthly and annual payments, while the standalone versions will require a one-time payment.

In both cases, the software and services will be released on October 5, which is when Microsoft will also start the rollout of the Windows 11 OS.

The Office 365 suite has now been renamed Microsoft 365, and includes premium versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Editor, and Microsoft Family Safety for PC, Mac, and mobile.

It also includes Access and Publisher for Windows computers, said Ben-Zur in the blog post.

Ben Zur said Microsoft 365 Personal for individuals would be priced $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.

For families and households of up to six people, Microsoft 365 Family will be $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year.

Apparently, as part of this plan, subscribers would automatically receive the visual updates to the apps starting October 5, and Microsoft Teams throughout October and November.

Office Home and Student 2021 will be priced at $149.99 USD, and includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Microsoft Teams for PC and Mac.

Office Home and Business 2021 will be $249.99, and come with everything in Office Home and Student 2021, as well as Outlook for PC and Mac and the rights to use the apps for business purposes.

Office 2021 can be bought from retailers and via Microsoft’s official website from October 5.

Both Microsoft 365 and Office 2021 will run on Windows 11, Windows 10, and the three most recent versions of macOS.

A Microsoft account and an internet connection are mandatory for subscribers to access and use Microsoft 365 or Office 2021, and the storage space associated with the plans.
