Israel vows ‘harsh response’ to Hezbollah attack

  • At least two people were killed on Monday in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon
  • The ceasefire came into effect on November 27 and stipulates that Israel will not carry out offensive military operations

Jerusalem, Palestinian Territories – Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz vowed a “harsh response” to a Hezbollah rocket launch targeting a military position on Monday in breach of the ceasefire in Lebanon that began last week.

Prior to that, at least two people were killed on Monday in Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese authorities, as the ceasefire ending more than a year of hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah looks increasingly fragile.

The ceasefire came into effect on November 27 and stipulates that Israel will not carry out offensive military operations against civilian, military, or other targets in Lebanon, while Lebanon will prevent any armed group, including Hezbollah, from carrying out operations against Israel.

“We promised to act against any violation of the ceasefire by Hezbollah – and that’s exactly what we will do.

Hezbollah’s fire toward an (Israeli army) post on Mount Dov will be met with a harsh response,” the minister said on X, referring to a disputed area on the Israel-Lebanon border.
