Tripoli, Libya- –The Council of Arab Information Ministers chose the city of Jerusalem as the permanent capital of Arab media, in an affirmation of the centrality of the Palestinian cause, and in appreciation of the emotional status and the special historical and legal character of this holy city, media reports said.
According to QNA, the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, said that it was agreed to name Jerusalem as the permanent capital of Arab media, in parallel with the selection of another capital every year.
Tripoli was the capital of Arab media for 2022. Khattabi was speaking on the sidelines of the closing festival of the activities of the Libyan capital.
He said the capital of Arab media project constituted one of the most prominent initiatives adopted by the Council at its forty-seventh regular session in 2016, with the aim of shedding light on national media work in the member states, and opening prospects for fruitful projects for Arab media cooperation.
On the sidelines of the closing ceremony, the late Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was assassinated by the Israeli occupation forces, was awarded the “Al Saraya Al Hamra” award for Arab Journalism, QNA reported.
