TEHRAN, IRAN – Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Iran Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi has said that relations between the two countries will be strong in all areas, including trade, economy and investment.
Speaking to IRNA in Tehran, the Saudi envoy expressed satisfaction with the start of a new chapter in his country’s ties with Iran and the two sides’ resumption of bilateral diplomatic relations.
He describing the ties between the two countries as “constructive, strong and based on the common interests, mutual respect and good neighborliness.”
Making the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony at the Chinese embassy in Tehran to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he hailed Beijing’s “constructive role” in helping the two countries resume their bilateral relations, Xinhua reported.
He said the China-brokered agreement has been positively welcomed by the international community.
The envoy said on Tuesday that any pact between Saudi Arabia and Iran will lead to the enhancement of peace and security in the entire region as well as greater welfare for the people of the two countries.
The Saudi ambassador arrived in Tehran on September 5, a few hours after the arrival of Iranian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Alireza Enayati in Riyadh on the same day.
In March, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a groundbreaking agreement to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies and missions within two months.
On April 6, the two countries officially announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with immediate effect.
Riyadh cut diplomatic ties with Tehran in early 2016 in response to attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran after the kingdom executed a Shiite cleric.
