SRMG taps Japanese firms

  • The partnership will enable SRMG to establish official channels with Shogakukan, Shueisha, and Kadokawa
  • This will let it adapt and localize global content for Arab audiences

The Saudi Research & Media Group has struck a content-licensing deal with noted Japanese publishing houses for Manga Arabia, local reports have said.

The partnership will enable SRMG to establish official channels with Shogakukan, Shueisha, and Kadokawa, said the reports.

This is expected to let the company, which owns more than 30 major media outlets, to adapt and localize global content for Arab audiences.

In line with the growing demand for manga art in Saudi Arabia, the agreement is also expected to see specialists from the four entities pool together resources and share expertise to ensure Manga Arabia’s imaginative new Arabic content is purposeful, safe, and inspired by Arab cultural values.

The content licensing agreement follows the recent announcement of the launch of Manga Arabia.

In addition to the original content inspired by the culture and values of the Arab region, the project is expected to promote local creatives while spotlighting Japanese and international partners for both regional and global audiences.

SRMG also plans to launch two offerings for Manga Arabia: “Manga Arabia Kids” with content catering to 10–15-year-olds, and a second title targeting those 16 and above.

Both offerings will reportedly be available free of charge in digital formats and monthly printed copies.
