Dubai, UAE — The United States launched an eighth consecutive night of air strikes on Iran early Sunday, targeting Revolutionary Guard positions and military infrastructure after two US service members were killed in an Iranian attack on a base in Jordan, while Tehran said it struck two American bases in Kuwait with drones in retaliation.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said the repeated breaches of agreements with Iran show that the US president’s signature is “worthless and invalid.”
In a message carried by Iran’s state-linked Press TV, Khamenei said recent U.S. actions had exposed “bullying, hegemony, and savagery” as inseparable from American conduct.
“Today, the Great Satan has once again revealed its true and unmasked face,” he said, adding that what he described as U.S. crimes and broken promises demonstrated America’s “dishonesty, irrationality, untrustworthiness, and vileness.”
‘IRGC targeted’
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest attacks targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces it blamed for the Jordan attack, along with coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites.
The strikes came after Washington confirmed that two US troops had been killed, one remained missing and four others were hospitalised following the attack on the Jordan base.
CENTCOM said the latest operation was intended to “swiftly punish” IRGC forces it said were responsible for the attack in Jordan, marking the eighth consecutive night of US strikes on Iran.
The military said more than 50,000 US personnel remained deployed across the Middle East and were ready to respond to further threats.
Iran says it struck US bases in Kuwait
Iran’s army said it launched “large-scale” drone attacks against Camp Udairi and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait in response to continued US strikes on Iranian territory.
Kuwait’s military said its air defences were intercepting hostile missiles and drones following what it described as Iranian attacks.
Iranian media also reported fresh US strikes on Sirik, a port on the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran.
War casualties continue to mount
Washington said the latest deaths brought the number of US military fatalities linked to the conflict to 16.
The two soldiers killed in Jordan were the first US troops to die directly from Iranian fire since the conflict began. Earlier deaths included personnel killed in attacks in Kuwait, an aircraft crash in Iraq and a helicopter crash in the Arabian Sea.
Iranian authorities say at least 50 people have been killed and more than 500 wounded in US strikes over the past three weeks, including eight people killed in an attack on a bridge on Friday.
