Dubai, UAE–South Korea has pressed for boosting cooperation with the UAE in the field of advanced technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to enable digital government.
This was stated by Dr. Koh Jean, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government in the Republic of Korea, on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024 in Dubai.
He stressed the committee’s keenness to explore and exchange digital best practices between the two countries.
Jean pointed to the close cooperation that links the two countries in the field of government digitisation, explaining that the UAE has attracted Korean experts specialised in artificial intelligence to enhance knowledge exchange.
“We are looking for the best practices that the UAE has in digital government, and we seek to employ them in professional life in South Korea. We would like to discuss how we can cooperate between the two countries to use artificial intelligence in government in a sustainable, effective and secure way,” he said.
“We look forward to strengthening cooperation with Middle Eastern countries, starting with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during the current year 2024,” he emphasised.
In light of the technological transformation that the world is witnessing, Dr. Koh Jean highlighted his country’s keenness to continue implementing government initiatives related to the digital platform and enhancing the application of artificial intelligence technologies in government tasks, adding that last year contributed to reducing the waiting rate for government transactions to 14.5 percent, in addition to improving productivity by more than 10 percent.
He noted that last year, 70 practices of using artificial intelligence in government work were recorded, stressing their goal of expanding its scope to include 200 practices. “This year, an advanced and hyper-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure was created specifically for government uses.”
The South Korean official emphasised the leading role played by artificial intelligence technologies in enhancing productivity and competitiveness. “The Korean Government looks forward to training citizens and government officials on how to use open data and then train them to use internal government data securely,” he concluded.
